Columbus North trailed early in each set Monday night and couldn’t recover.
The Bull Dogs rallied to keep a couple of the sets close, but the early deficit was too much to overcome in a 25-22, 25-10, 25-23 boys volleyball loss against Franklin Central.
“We struggled with it kind of all year,” North coach Jeff Case said. “We’ve just got to pass the ball, and a whole gamut of errors, and we’ve got to string three good contacts together.”
The Flashes pulled away in the first set when they rallied off six straight points to lead 14-9 before eventually closing the set. In the third set, the Bull Dogs trailed 3-0 early and fought back to tie it at 9-9. North went ahead 15-11, but Franklin Central proved to be too much as it came back to eventually tie it at 23-23 and scored the last two points to claim the set and match.
“You’ve got the chance to go out there against a good team and compete, and that’s what it’s all about,” Case said. “We’ve just got keep staying focused and have fun and support. They put a lot of pressure on you, and you’ve got to pay attention, so we’ve got to be ahead of the game and not get down on ourselves. We’ve got to weather the storm.”
Leo Iorio led North with 10 digs, eight kills and two blocks. Yuta Kondo finished with 10 digs, six kills and a block.
Also for the Bull Dogs, Yoki Murabayashi notched 10 digs. Kota Kondo had six digs, Anyu Gong pounded two kills and Noah Dornfeld added one block.
“We had opportunities, and the whole night was an opportunity to compete, so that’s how we’ve got to look at it. Every time we get on the floor, we’ve got a chance to get better, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Case said.
