NORTH FORK, NY — A former bait dog who arrived on the North Fork, scarred and battered, saw his dreams die, again, when he was brought back to the shelter after finally finding a new home.
According to Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations at the North Fork Animal Welfare League, Buddy came to the shelter in April, 2021, from Texas.
“He had been used as a bait dog and came with visible scars,” she said. “That being said, he loved everyone and would go to events with us.”
Buddy, she said, “was lucky enough to finally be adopted in September, 2021. Sadly, his adopter had to bring Buddy back in August, 2022. Buddy had become uncomfortable around other dogs and was causing issues in the development where his mom lived.”
Since then, Stroup said, Buddy has been waiting hopefully at the shelter. “He loves his people. He watches every day as other dogs find their happy lives — now it’s his turn.”
She added: “Once you’re one of his people, you will get tons of love. He will make a great companion for the right person. If you think you can help this guy finally get what he deserves, please call us.”
Buddy, Stroup said, would probably be best as an only pet, but the shelter is willing to do meet and greets.
“Buddy will require a few visits to make sure you’re a fit for him,” Stroup said. “Let’s get this handsome guy out of the shelter.”
