PEORIA (25News Now) – About 250 runners and walkers braved the cold for a good cause on the Peoria Riverfront Saturday.
The Frosty 5k for FamilyCore is in its 26th year. It started as an effort to collect coats for children. Now, it raises money to offset costs for families in need.
The race also included a one-mile dog walk that started right after the 5k.
“It’s important that services like FamilyCore are supported by the community. Not just us, but all nonprofits, because people are hurting out there, and we need your help,” said Ann Lading-Ferguson, CEO of FamilyCore.
FamilyCore leaders said their services continue to be in high demand. They served almost 18,000 people last year, with mental health requests in particular increasing.
