Emmy nominations are out! This prestigious award acknowledges the best works on TV and on Wednesday (July 17), the nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards were revealed.
This year, The Bear continues to dominate the list, with the period drama Shogun emerging as a competitor. Both shows are leading the Emmy nominations. Starring Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri, the FX series earned 23 nominations.
Meanwhile, Shogun broke HBO’s Game of Thrones records, earning 25 nods in the drama category. Much like every year, the list was full of surprises and snubs, which we can’t ignore at all.
After a long wait, the critically acclaimed show Reservation Dogs finally found a mention in the list. At the same time, Selena Gomez also got lucky as she received her first-ever acting nomination for her performance as Mabel in a Comedy Series Only Murders in the Building
As nominations are out, here are all the big snubs, surprises and historic nominations.
Snub: Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman has been dominating the TV space with her performance in shows like Big Little Lies, The Undoing and Nine Perfect Strangers. However, it was surprising when Kidman was not nominated for her role as Margaret in the Amazon drama Expats. Created by Lulu Wang, Kidman received critical and audience appreciation alike.
Surprise: Selena Gomez
After two seasons, Selena Gomez has finally been recognised for her performance in Only Murders in the Building. After winning Best Actress at Cannes in May, Gomez nabbed her first acting nomination in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for her performance as Mabel.
Surprise: Reservation Dogs
The long wait is finally over. The comedy series has finally got the deserving Emmy love that many have been anticipating for a very long time. The third and final season of Sterlin Harjo and Taika Watiti’s received a nomination for a comedy series.
Snub: The Curse
Nathan Fielder’s much-loved show didn’t find a mention anywhere in the Emmy nominations. Even the star cast comprising Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, failed to nab a nomination.
Record breaking: The Bear
The Bear broke an Emmy Record for a Comedy Series with a staggering 23 nominations. The second season of the hit FX series has earned 23 nominations, surpassing the Emmy record held by NBC’s 30 Rock since 2009.
