The Elm Grove Police Department has identified two owners and their dogs involved in separate dog bite incidents last week in Village Park.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, the department thanked residents on social media for spreading the word and helping them find the culprits, both of whom left the two separate incidents without providing their information to the victims of the dog bites.
Police referred both incidents to the Waukesha County Humane Officer for review and follow-up with animal quarantine procedures.
It’s not clear how severe the dog bites were.
The humane officer did not respond to a reporter’s call requesting comment in time for publication. Elm Grove Assistant Police Chief Ryan Unger was also not available to answer questions about the incidents in time for publication.
The dog bites in Village Park, 13600 Juneau Blvd., were two of three complaints of dogs biting people the department received within a week, police said in a June 7 Facebook post.
“Many of our dog bite complaints also involved unregistered dogs,” the post said. Dogs off leash, dogs on leashes longer than six feet and dogs in unauthorized areas of the park are other complaints the Village has received.
“We are also thankful for the discussion that these incidents sparked with regards to the Village of Elm Grove Ordinance related to dogs in the park, having your pets up to date on vaccinations, and just overall responsible pet ownership,” the Elm Grove Police Department wrote on Facebook Tuesday.
At Village Park, dogs are allowed on the perimeter pathways around the park and pond. Dogs are not allowed in playground areas, soccer or softball fields, sand volleyball courts or the pool areas, according to a Village ordinance.
Dogs used by a disabled person and any police canine working with law enforcement, however, are allowed in Village parks, the ordinance states.
