EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Eau Claire Police Department is collaborating with animal shelters in the region to promote animals in need of adoption. Through this ‘pawtrol’, the animals may have a better chance of getting adopted.
There are many animals in need of a home at the Eau Claire Community Humane Association, like Ethel, Jack Daniels, or even Denahi.
“Denahi here has been at the shelter for probably a little more than two months now. He’s just a little love bug,” Addie Erdmann, the Marketing and Development Director at ECCHA, said. “He obviously loves to snuggle. He loves car rides and he loves treats.”
This month, Denahi is getting extra attention through a ‘pawtrol’ with the Eau Claire Police Department.
“We just want to help our local shelter animals get adopted,” Shannon Hoyt, the Media and Communications Specialist with ECPD, said. “It’s just really important to show the community that we’re here for so much more than tackling crime and protecting our community.”
Each month, ECPD highlights a dog from ECCHA or Bob’s House for Dogs, sharing details about the pet up for adoption.
“This is just an additional way and a really heartwarming way to give back to our community and to help our local furry friends,” Hoyt said.
The ‘pawtrol’ isn’t just about giving back to the community though, it helps the animals reach new people.
“When it comes to marketing, everybody has different audiences. So our audience might not necessarily capture the same audience that Eau Claire PD does. It’s just great to be able to expand that horizon a little bit and reach more people in the community,” Erdmann said. “The shelter is an incredibly stressful environment for any animal that’s here. So, sometimes they may not show very well so when we have partnerships with places like ECPD that can just get them out of the shelter, then you can see what they’re like.”
The program is ultimately looking to help all of the furry friends find their new homes.
Another opportunity to get pets out of the shelter is through its daycation program. Volunteers can take pets out of ECCHA for a few hours to give them a break from being at the shelter. More information on how to volunteer can be found HERE.
