Update: A 3-year-old boy who wandered away from his family’s residence early Monday wasn’t endangered for hours, after all, Camillus police said.
The boy, who lived at Kings Gate West, left his apartment building and wandered to a different building, where another resident safeguarded him, said Camillus Capt. Jim Nightingale.
The resident was watching over the boy during the ensuing hours-long search, Nightingale said. That’s why drones and search dogs couldn’t find him.
A reverse 911 call and communication by the apartment complex management eventually helped the Good Samaritan make contact with police, he said.
The boy was found safe and unharmed. He was waiting with the adult in a vehicle when police reached him.
He has since been reunited with his family, Nightingale said.
