Drake University holds a lottery to select the 30 bulldogs to participate in the 46th annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Nearly 100 English Bulldogs from pet owners across 17 states gathered at Olmsted Center at Drake University on Wednesday evening, hoping to be chosen to compete in the university’s annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest.
The 100 bulldogs were narrowed down to 30 contestants and 10 alternates via a lottery drawing. Bulldogs of all shapes and sizes were selected during the event, which was presided over by Griff II, Drake’s live mascot.
Since 1979, Drake has bestowed the title “Most Beautiful Bulldog” to nearly 50 dogs. Last year, Pumpkin, a bulldog from Oakland, Iowa, won the university’s 45th Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest. The contest is among the festivities celebrating Drake Relays week.
When is the 2025 Drake University Beautiful Bulldog Contest?
These 30 bulldogs will now wear their most extravagant costumes at Drake Univerity’s Knapp Center on April 21. A time for the event has yet to be announced.
The contest had multiple awards aside from the Most Beautiful Bulldog. Those awards include the Drake Spirit Award, the Rescue Dog Recognition Award and the Porterhouse People’s Choice Award.
