Dozens of dogs have been surrendered to authorities amid an investigation into an Orange County animal rescue.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office revealed Thursday it had executed a search warrant on Locust Grove-based All Fur Animal Rescue earlier in the year after receiving an anonymous complaint. The rescue turned over 52 dogs, but the investigation has only expanded as more complaints have come in, the sheriff’s office said.
Back in February, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous complaint that the rescue was not properly caring for the dogs kept at its property. Investigators executed a search warrant three days after the initial complaint, and the owner of the rescue surrendered 52 dogs to the Orange County Animal Shelter, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post Thursday.
“Since the initial surrender, additional complaints have been brought forward and are currently under review,” the sheriff’s office said. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation.”

The sudden addition of 52 dogs to the Orange County Animal Shelter prompted the shelter to set up online registries for dog food, dog treats and cleaning supplies, the shelter posted on Facebook Feb. 26. The shelter has urged the public to consider adopting a pet to ease the strain of overcrowding.
In its own Facebook post Wednesday, All Fur Animal Rescue spoke out to “set the record straight.”
“When ANY Rescue, Spca, Humane Society, Shelter gets overwhelmed, they reach out and get help. This is the right thing to do!” the rescue said. The organization had “been sitting back and watching all of the Drama, Untruthful & Boldface lies going around. All this BS about 1 shelter physically taking 50, 100 Afar [All Fur Animal Rescue] dogs into their shelter and care is a total lie.”
The investigation into the rescue is not over, and the organization could be looking at criminal charges in the future.
“As more information becomes available and any criminal indictments are returned in the All Fur Animal Rescue case, the public will be informed through appropriate channels,” the sheriff’s office said.
Questions or concerns related to the case can be directed to Capt. Becky Jones with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 672-1200.
