ST. GABRIEL, La. (WAFB) – An animal hospital in Iberville Parish is under investigation after officials say multiple dogs were found abandoned and malnourished at the facility.
According to the St. Gabriel Police Department, over 30 dogs were rescued from the St. Gabriel Animal Hospital on Sunday night, May 18. Officers reported that many of the dogs were in poor and deteriorating health.
Police said the remains of several dogs were found discarded in a trash can on the property.
Two non-profit animal rescue organizations reportedly tipped police off around 9:30 p.m. Sunday about the serious condition of the dogs at the facility.
According to police, responding officers determined the environment was unsafe for the animals’ well-being, and the Iberville Parish Animal Control was contacted.
Volunteers and rescue workers remained on site until 1 a.m. Monday to safely remove the animals and ensure they received immediate care, added police.
The police department confirmed that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident has been launched, and officers are working closely with animal welfare partners.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
