Our first dog was a dog.
That’s not surprising. At first, she was just “Pearl.” The appellation “the dog” quickly caught on. After all, Pearl’s mother was “Bud the Dog,” named after the beverage. “Bud the Bitch,” though genetically correct, seemed unnecessarily harsh when applied to a dog as refined as Bud, who could climb playground ladders and slide back down.
