MUSKEGON, MI – Celebrate the holidays with your furry friend at an upcoming Muskegon event for dog lovers.
The Pawliday Party Pop-Up, hosted by Pup & Co Muskegon, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at The Claymore, 165 West Clay Avenue.
“Since moving to Muskegon, I’ve been looking for ways to bring all the awesome pet businesses in our area together to support each other and better serve our community,” said Gineva Bailey, founder and trainer for Pup & Co Muskegon. “And I love the holiday season, it can really bring the best out of us, and winter often adds extra struggle for both people and pets; being able to meet new friends and connect can be such a gift.”
K-9 companions will be the center of attention at the event, with holiday photos, make-and-take crafts, free holiday goodie bags, gifts and treats.
There will also be information booths and demos from local pet professionals like groomers, veterinarians, pet sitters, trainers, chiropractors, massage therapists, pet gear makers, daycare and the local nonprofits that are receiving donations.
Big Lake Humane Society may bring some adoptable dogs to the event, Bailey added.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food or related items, or a monetary gift, for local shelters Pound Buddies and Big Lake Humane Society, and nonprofit Operation Solo.
“I also wanted a chance to shine a light on some of the non-profits that help provide shelter, education, food and care to the pets in our area,” Bailey said. “They each work tirelessly to make a difference in a dire situation in animal welfare right now, and winter is extra difficult.”
Only dogs that are “safe and under control in public settings” and well-behaved around other dogs are encouraged to come to the event, Bailey wrote on Facebook.
Dogs must be on six-foot leash at all times, maintain appropriate distances and avoid greeting other dogs.
There will be a “low-sensory” option for dogs that may not get along well with other dogs and around crowds of people, so they can still get a holiday photo and a goodie bag.
Those spots are by appointment only from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Bailey provides in-home basic and behavioral training, specializing in rescue and reactive dogs. She has a background in horse and dog training.
“People that care about animals tend to be pretty awesome, I’m definitely biased,” Bailey said. “Giving them a chance to meet each other and their pups seems like a benefit for everyone.”
