Dogs seized from Smith County fighting operation now in search of forever homes

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The dogs confiscated and turned over to Smith County animal shelter after several dogfighting operation arrests are currently in need of a new home.

“None of the seizure dogs that we took back in September are adopted,” says Amber Greene, Supervisor from the Smith County Animal Control Center. “We have reached out to some rescues, and there’s been some that have come and taken some of them.”

A behavior specialist from Jacksonville, Florida, came to Smith County Animal Control Center this weekend to evaluate 39 of their dogs in hopes of finding them a home soon.

“We can place some with rescues that are familiar with the game-bred pits, and preferably out of Texas, so none of them end up back in this area,” says Greene. “Because we just don’t want them back into a situation where they just come out.”

The dogs currently sheltered at the center are not under veterinary care; those initially treated have been transferred to Nicholas Pet Haven and Spence and White Veterinary Hospital in Tyler.

“We had the six criticals; this is one of them,” says Gary Spence, the veterinarian from Spence & White Veterinary Hospital as he points to one of the injured dogs. “She’s the one that had her face so badly torn up, and it looks much better now. She’s healed, except for her scarring.”

Spence says that one of the dogs under his care had recently been adopted.

“One of the dogs found its forever home,” says Spence. “It left the county. The other five we still have. They’ve all of them been vetted. They had hook worms, really bad, internal parasites. All that’s been taken care of.”

Spence says everyone is doing their part to help find these dogs safe homes.

“Nicholas Pet Haven is working with an out of state rescue, and probably within three to four weeks,” says Spence. “We’re hoping these dogs are going to be able to transport up north and find their homes.”

He also says he hopes it’s a home they can call their forever home.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
