BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — After a frantic search that spanned four days, two lost dogs have been reunited with their owner thanks to a hiker who stepped up to help.
It was the day after Easter when Kathleen Wesley encountered every pet owner’s worst nightmare: her two cherished dogs, Spike and Snickers, bolted from their home in Black Canyon City. “I opened the front door, and he bolted on me. Spike was outdoors and he followed him,” she said.
After hours of searching for her dogs, Kathleen reached out on Facebook, hoping for assistance. “I posted it on three different sites for Black Canyon City and everybody shared it. There were so many shares,” Wesley said.
Days later, while hiking along a Black Canyon City trail, Steve Eisenreich spotted two familiar figures. “Spike came over and I was like, is there someone else down here? And then I was like, wait a second, I recognize those dogs,” he said.
Teaming up with another good Samaritan named Conrad, Eisenreich quickly sprang into action. Spike, an 11-year-old, 95-pound pooch, was too weak to walk. Fortunately, Eisenreich had a dog sling and carried Spike on his back for nearly an hour as they waited for Daisy Mountain firefighters. “Everybody helped get these dogs back to the owner,” Eisenreich said.

Ultimately, thanks to their heroic efforts and the overwhelming support from the community, both dogs were reunited with Wesley four days later. “I can’t be anything but grateful to everyone that got involved in this and people who are willing to get involved,” Wesley said.
