BUCKSPORT (WVII) — Dozens of dogs have been rescued after being found in horrific conditions at an animal rescue and sanctuary in Bucksport.
The Department of Agriculture says the state’s animal welfare program relocated 27 dogs from Coastal Dreams Rescue and Sanctuary.
All the dogs were taken to other area shelters and rescues and are reportedly doing well.
In fact, some of them should be available for adoption soon.
The owner of Coastal Dreams Rescue and Sanctuary, Ellisha Krutuleski of Bucksport, is under investigation for animal cruelty after six dogs were reportedly found dead and those other 27 were rescued.
Former volunteers at the rescue say it was more like a nightmare. They claim as many as six dogs were found decomposing in trash bags there.
Krutuleski is facing six counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of cruelty to animals.
A rescue in Florida says they regret sending a dog named Howler to Coastal Dreams to get adopted and say it almost killed him.
“She got howler in April. She said she was feeding him four cups of high calorie a day. This dog was skinnier than he had ever been in his life. Almost to the point of not being alive,” said Sierra Hancock, a Rags to Riches dog coordinator.
Hancock says Howler is now safe.
