POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – Two Polk County men are facing animal neglect charges after deputies found six dogs in deplorable conditions inside a mobile home.
On May 30, deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the home to hear multiple dogs inside the mobile home.
The home had no power and no windows were open for circulation, a news release said. The temperature inside the home was 107 degrees.
The dogs were panting, without food or water, and the inside of the home was covered in trash, feces, and urine, that could be smelled from outside the home, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies seized the animals. Body temperatures of the dogs reached as high as 105 degrees and ammonia levels in the home registered 25 ppm, a hazardous reading, the sheriff’s office said.
During the investigation, 29-year-old Alan Alderman and 65-year-old Thornton Arnold arrived at the property where deputies said they claimed they only owned two of the dogs; they clamed three belonged to Alderman’s girlfriend who is currently in jail, and they were unaware the sixth dog existed.
They were both placed under arrest and booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with six counts of animal neglect, a first-degree misdemeanor, the news release said.
All dogs were taken to Polk County Animal Control for medical evaluation and treatment.
