LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Dogs seized from deplorable living conditions are on the road to recovery thanks to the Lynchburg Humane Society.
58 dogs were found at a home in Broadway, Virginia, after their owner passed away. The human society said the owner suffered from hoarding disorder and things spiraled out of control as more puppies were born on the property without proper medical care.
The shelter that made the rescue kept as many of the dogs as it could for treatment, and six of those dogs were sent to LHS; so far, two of them have been adopted.

The humane society noted that the dogs are suffering from the effects of years in a neglectful home and are recovering from issues such as mange, parasites like tapeworm, and other serious health problems.
Along with physical healing, the dogs are still recovering emotionally. The humane society says, despite what they have endured, the dogs are sweet and gentle-natured, but will need patience and love as they continue their recovery.
LHS’s medical and pet care teams are working hard to medicate the dogs, but they’re still in need of support from the community. Some of the dogs are ready for adoption, while others would benefit from funding and/or fostering.
