FAIRFAX, Iowa — A pair of dogs in Linn county had a close call Monday after they wandered onto thin quarry ice and had to be rescued.
Linn county Deputies and Fairfax Fire were called to the 400 block of Quarry Rd. in Fairfax around noon. When crews arrived they found the homeowner had coaxed one of the dogs near shore where it broke through the ice. She had jumped into shallow water and was able rescue it.
The owner of the dogs was also on scene and attempting to prevent the other dog from wandering near the thinner ice.
Firefighters used their cold water rescue kit to swim out and rescue the second dog.
