SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) – With many parts of the Kansas City metro dealing with snowfall totals over 5-10 inches, problems are abundant, from shoveling driveways to delayed trash pickups. For pet owners, getting their non-litterbox-trained animals to take a bathroom break is just one more.
Shawnee residents Niki and Jeff Kelly have two chihuahuas — Buoy and Finn — who don’t necessarily refuse to be in the snow, they’re just too short.
“The blizzard last week made it impossible for them to walk out in our backyard,” Jeff explained.
But rather than simply shoveling a small patch for the dogs to roam and ‘go,’ the couple decided to outfit their backyard with a looping maze.
“With their 6 inch legs, they would completely disappear if we didn’t carve them this path,” Jeff said. “As they days went on it got more elaborate, we even added a snow tunnel.”
Videos show Buoy and Finn curiously exploring the expanses of their new territory. “They love it!” Jeff said.

Knowing Missouri’s up-and-down weather, Buoy and Finn had better make the most of their snow maze while it lasts.
