A dog owner from Vancouver, Canada, shared her pup’s heartwarming reaction to his grandma leaving the house, and internet users can’t cope with it.
In a viral TikTok video shared on Monday by @karl.and.jan, the Staffordshire bull terrier, Karl, can be seen hugging his grandma as she says goodbye to him for the day, trying to stop her with his paws as soon as she turns around to leave.
“When it’s time for grandma to go home,” reads layover text in the clip. A caption says: “The worst part of any day is when grandma has to go back to her house.” Newsweek reached out to @karl.and.jan for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
Most dogs have a favorite human and, in Karl’s case, it seems very clear that his number one person is his beloved grandma.
That’s right; a pup’s best human friend is not always their owner or their primary caregiver. In fact, it can be anyone who spends time with them, from their walker to their grandparent. But how do you know whether you are their favorite or not?
Kait Hembree, veterinary behavior nurse and head of training and behavior specialist at GoodPup, previously told Newsweek that, when your dog loves you, they will do anything to be near you.
They will also wiggle their tail; keep soft eye contact with you; rub their face on you; and generally show signs that they feel comfortable and relaxed around you.
If your pup behaves this way with multiple people, then it probably means that they have more than one favorite, says Georgia-based veterinarian Jess Kirk in an article published by Vet Explains Pets.
She adds that dogs can have multiple favorites, each for a different reason, and they are able to form a unique and special bond with each and every one of them, without diminishing their bond with their primary caregiver.
If you think you are currently not among your pup’s favorites, you can easily change their mind by spending more quality time with them, going on long walks, and giving them a cheeky treat every now and then.
The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 1.3 million views and more than 203,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Amy Carmen, commented: “My pitty would leave me for dead for her grandma.”
Tanyabirdauthor said: “Please tell me grandma moved in right after you posted this.”
Spacedouutt added: “I don’t know how she left, I would have moved in.”
