Dog’s reaction to stranger talking to him in car delights: “Absolutely not”

A woman from Massachusetts saw a dog waiting alone in a car and tried to say hello to him. The pup’s reaction has left internet users in hysterics.

In a viral video shared on TikTok in December under the username @ashmamom, the pup can be seen sitting right up in the passenger seat of a parked car, minding his own business while patiently waiting for his human to come back.

Upon noticing the dog, the poster, sitting one car away, immediately tries to greet him: “Hi! How are you? Happy New Year!” she can be heard saying. However, the pup refuses to pay attention to her, pretending he can’t even hear her. “Not talking to strangers … what a good boy!!!!” reads the caption.

Newsweek reached out to @ashmamom for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.

While the pup in the clip had the car windows slightly rolled down for air flow, many dogs left in cars alone with the windows up risk suffocating.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) says that 111 pets in the U.S. died in 2024 alone due to heat-related issues, and about 388 were rescued from similar situations. And those are just the numbers reported.

These deaths are often reported in hot southern states such as Florida, Arizona and California, but accidents like these can and do happen everywhere, even in places where the temperatures are not as high. Many cases every year are also recorded in states such as New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois, to mention a few.

If you see a dog stuck in a hot car and unable to leave, you should call 911 immediately to help them out safely.

While police officers are on the way, you can ask around and try to find the owner. If the pup’s life seems in imminent danger, PETA suggests getting a witness and removing the dog from the car, even if it means smashing the window.

Me, my Doods and I added: “He’s like ‘don’t make eye contact, whatever you do, don’t make eye contact.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
