Dogs race to finish line at Bark’n Good Time event in Harrison County

HARRISON CO., Miss. (WLOX) – Dogs of all shapes and sizes are hitting the track this weekend for the fourth annual Bark’n Good Time event at the Harrison County Fairgrounds.

Presented by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club, the competition is drawing crowds of canine lovers and some very excited pups.

“You see dogs that just cannot wait for their turn to run,” said Carl Grotton, publicity chair for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club.

Among the eager competitors was Brando, a seasoned racer who could barely stay still upon arrival.

“When we pulled up to the arena this morning, he was jumping around in the back of the car. He was ready to go,” Brando’s owner Christina Becker said.

The event, sanctioned by the American Kennel Club, gives dogs the chance to race against others in their breed.

Competitors earn points based on their speed, and the top 20 dogs in each breed across the nation will be invited to the National Finals in Orlando.

Becker believes the event is a perfect match for dogs like Brando.

“Watching them do what they’re bred to do and seeing them have fun because it’s all on them. They’re competing against their own time,” she said.

There are two competitive trials for dogs to showcase their skills, but dog owners emphasize that it’s not just about winning.

“It gives the dogs something fun to do. Any breed can compete in this type of event. It used to be just sighthounds, but the AKC has opened it up for all breeds. So just come out and try it and see if your dogs like it,” Becker said.

No prior experience is necessary to enter.

The event runs through Sunday and is free for the public to attend. There is a small registration fee for those who want to enter their dogs.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
