Dogs, owners play disc sports at Bite Club, first event of its kind in Arkansas

McRAE — “Catch! Miss! Time,” shouted Alexis Brewer, head judge for the UpDog Challenge Bite Club “disc dog” event Sunday, as teams of humans passed Frisbees to their canine teammates.

UpDog is an international disc and dog sport organization that offers a wide array of games catered to various skill and experience levels, and clubs compete in weekly games, called Bite Clubs, where scores are tallied. But Sunday’s Bite Club event was the first of its kind in the state.

Before some dogs skidded to a stop in an attempt to catch discs while others leapt sky-high to show off their athleticism, canines of all ages, breeds and sizes lined up along a start line.

One after another, approximately eight owners threw up to four discs to their canine counterpart, who sprinted — although sometimes nonchalantly — to catch the latest disc and win points for their dog-and-human team.
