Dogs on parade March 17; 2025 St. Patrick’s Day Dog Parade dedicated to the memory of its founder, Denise Burke

St. Patrick's Day dog parade

This photo from 2010 is of the third annual St. Patrick’s Day Dog Parade in Crystal River. Dogs of Citrus County and their well-behaved humans are invited to this year’s parade beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17 at Crystal River Town Square.

In 2007, the first year Denise Burke and partner James Stevens owned Burkes of Ireland Irish Pub in downtown Crystal River (now KC Wine And Koffee Bar), Denise had a crazy idea for St. Patrick’s Day.

What if people dress up their dogs and we have a dog parade around town? It would be a hoot, and also a way to raise funds for the Citrus County Animal Shelter.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Dog Parade is dedicated to the memory of its founder, Denise Burke, former owner of Burkes of Ireland Irish Pub in Crystal River. Burkes closed in 2019, and Burke died Sept. 25, 2024.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
