A crash in Cameron has left an owner trying to track down several of his hunting dogs. The single-vehicle crash happened in the 2800 block of N.C. 24-27 near Dewberry Lane around 1:30 p.m.
Sandhills Sentinel spoke with both officials on scene and the driver of the Toyota Tacoma after the accident, who confirmed the driver had swerved to avoid hitting a deer.
The Toyota truck had run off the roadway before crashing head-on into a tree just a few feet from a light pole. The truck sustained heavy front-end damage as a result of the crash.
The driver had 15 hunting dogs with him in the back of his truck and told Sandhills Sentinel that there were still 4 or 5 missing. The missing dogs are wearing trackers and friends were in the area helping to locate them, but they had not yet all been accounted for.
The missing dogs are a Fox Walker breed and should be wearing tracking collars.
The driver of the truck was uninjured in the crash.
One lane of N.C. 24-27 was shut down while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol was investigating the crash.
