A man now faces charges in connection with a deadly dog attack in Albany. Omar Daniels, 44, is charged. James Provost, 49, was mauled by at least eight dogs.
The dogs involved in October’s deadly attack in Albany are being housed at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
Omar Daniels, 44, is the owner the dogs that were involved in the attack of 60-year-old James Provost. Provost was attacked by as many as nine dogs in the rear yard of 594 Central Ave. on Oct. 9 just before 6 p.m.
An Albany Police officer shot at the dogs to stop the attack, killing one, police said. Provost was pronounced dead at the scene.
A total of 23 dogs, including puppies, are being housed at the shelter in Menands. Police do not know what Provost’s connection is to the dogs.
Daniels is accused of mistreating four dogs — named Ghost, Cinnamon, Seven and Lola.
Daniels is facing charges of criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter, aggravated cruelty to animals and three counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, failure to provide proper sustenance.
Police said previously that the property had been searched in May after receiving a complaint about drug activity.
Daniels was supposed to be in Albany County Court on Monday in connection with an unrelated case. That has been postponed to a later date.
Daniels is due back in court on Feb. 7 on the dog attack charges. He is currently in prison on a previous drug charge.
