PALMETTO, Fla. (WWSB) – Guide dogs, along with their trainers took center stage Saturday in Palmetto. It was part of the first “Discovery Day” at Dogs Inc, formerly known as Southeastern Guide Dogs.
The free event was a way for the public to get an up-close look at the Palmetto campus where dogs are trained, then eventually paired up with Veterans to provide emotional support and assistance.
Visitors had a chance to do everything from watch guide dog training demonstrations, to taking the Canine University Tour to see where residence halls where the dogs in-training reside.
“The dogs are great, they’re non-judgmental, and just want to love, and be loved, “ said Calvin Horst, who attended the open house with his family.
Multiple information stations were also part of the event offering such areas as volunteer opportunities, and puppy raising.
“This is a great way for people to see how we train the dogs in a fun setting, “ added Marisa Blanco, with Dogs Inc.
