As reported, Dogs In A Pile presented the inaugural Burning Daylight festival at Syracuse’s Westcott Theater last weekend. Pink Talking Fish performed as part of the bill on Saturday’s day two and brought out DIAP guitarists Jimmy Law and Brian Murray for an extended collaboration to end their set.
Pink Talking Fish played into the Dogs theme after opening with “In The Flesh” and “Life During Wartime” by working the Phish classic “Runaway Jim” into Pink Floyd’s “Dogs.” The quartet left the song from the English band’s iconic 1977 album Animals unfinished as they segued into a “Psycho Killer” that bled into “Reba.”

The tribute act returned to the Floyd catalog for “Mother” and then performed Talking Heads’ “Slippery People” before revving into “Harpua.” Pink Talking Fish welcomed Law and Murray to the stage along with comedian/Burning Daylight host Cam Herdt as they reached the narration portion of the Phish tune.
Herdt told a story that led the assembled musicians into the second half of “Dogs.” Jimmy Law, Brian Murray and PTF’s Cal Kehoe combined forces for otherworldly triple guitar melodies. The six musicians then finished “Harpua” with Jimmy portraying “Jimmy” and Brian serving as “Dad.” Law and Murray helped Pink Talking Fish wrap their set with a cover of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage.”
