Dogs get spotlight in coming fundraiser

Dogs looking for a new home will be all over the place during a fundraiser for the Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society.

Better known as P.A.W.S., the group is hosting the fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 at the Pauls Valley Dog Park, which is located in Wacker Park.

Free food with a donation will be offered at the cookout fundraiser and adoption event.

Pauls Valley’s Independence Day celebration is set to start at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4 at Thompson Field in Wacker Park.

Food, drinks and music will be featured, along with a big fireworks show later in the evening.

The Pauls Valley Tennis and Racquet Association is planning Wembley in the Valley on Saturday, July 13 at Wacker Park.

The event is what’s called touchtennis, which is a modified version of tennis played on a compact court with foam balls and shorter rackets.

The Wimbley event – a reference to the Wimbledon tournament in England each summer – is open to anyone and will be on the grass between the park’s bandshell and rose garden.

The Pauls Valley Church of Christ will host a Vacation Bible School from 6 to 7:45 p.m. July 8-10.

Dinner will be served nightly at 5 p.m. as there will be classes for all ages.

There will be a Bible lesson each night (Abraham, Joseph and Hannah), crafts, games and snacks. The theme is “Trusting in God.”

An annual Whitebead Cemetery Board meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 at the Whitebead Methodist Church fellowship building. The public is invited to attend.

With no first Tuesday lunch in Antioch this month, the gathering is now set to resume in July.

The Antioch Community Association and the Antioch OHCE plan to hold the gathering on Tuesday, July 2.

A representative of the Southern Oklahoma Development Association will be available to discuss Medicare and other Medicare topics and related services. Attendance is welcomed.

TOPS #641 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meet weekly at 4 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Pauls Valley, 300 North Ash.

The meetings are open to the public and the first visit to any TOPS meeting is free.
