The Cumberland County Animal Shelter in Fayetteville is at capacity, and dogs over 25 pounds are no cost to adopt on Saturday, June 22, only.
The shelter, located at 4704 Corporation Drive, is open Saturday between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. A gallery of adoptable animals is available online.
On Friday, the shelter posted on Facebook, “Our shelter is completely full, and we need your help! Thanks to a generous donor, all large dog (over 25lbs) adoption fees are sponsored, which means adopting is FREE today (6/21) and tomorrow (6/22)!”
The need is dire, and the shelter is asking for potential fosters.
“If you can’t commit permanently, fostering is a great option,” the post read. “We urgently need fosters for dogs in isolation due to upper respiratory infections. By fostering, you can give these pups a safe space to recover and free up vital shelter space.”
Clearing space in the shelter makes room so the shelter can take in other dogs.
Every year, thousands of healthy animals are killed in North Carolina animal shelters, particurally those in rural areas, due to a lack of space. Adopting or rescuing a dog from a shelter or rescue saves lives.
