DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa (WHP) — Police have filed charges against a Millersburg man after an employee of a realtor company found multiple animals dead and frozen in an abandoned house.
Tyler Brown, 33, of Millersburg, was living at a home in the 3900 block of State Route 209 in Washington Township, where the animals were found on Jan. 16, according to charging documents filed by Pennsylvania State Police.
The home, however, was reportedly found abandoned when a Dauphin County sheriff went to serve an eviction notice on Jan. 14.
An employee for the realtor company who is selling the property told troopers he entered the basement of the home on Jan. 16 and found two dead dogs.
After hearing from the realtor company worker, troopers visited the residence and checked out the basement.
There, they found two dogs frozen and stiff with the animals’ ribs visible and eyes sunken. The basement was also covered in clothes, garbage, empty cans of alcoholic beverages, and over 50 piles of frozen animal feces, according to charging documents.
Troopers also found a dead cat in an upstairs room they said appeared as if it belonged to a young child.
There was no sign of heat or water in the residence, and bags of food were found in the home torn open and scattered.
Neighbors told troopers that Brown did own two dogs and a cat that matched the descriptions of the animals found dead. They said about a month ago they heard dogs howling but hadn’t seen anyone come to the home since.
Investigators also found photos of the dogs on Brown’s Facebook profile, according to charging documents.
Online court records indicate Brown was arrested Jan. 17 and charged with three felony counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals – Causing SBI or Death and three misdemeanor counts of Neglect of Animals – Sustenance/Water.
He is out on an unsecured bail of $15,000 and awaited a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 5.
