A man who recently moved to the beach shared how his dog reacted to the new environment for the first time and, although he enjoys it now, it didn’t go as originally planned.
The feeling of sand under the dog’s paws didn’t deter Skippy, as Matthew Scriv’s May 21 TikTok video showed the dog immediately running down the path toward the water with some pep in his step. A sign of a great start to Skippy’s first beach trip. However, that excitement quickly wore off when the crashing waves rushed closer to his paws. Skippy skedaddled away from the waves to avoid getting wet.
It is not uncommon for dogs to be nervous or scared around water. For starters, being in the water is often a new experience for canines and with the unknown, slightly terrifying. Sometimes dogs are frightened because of a previous traumatic experience. Whatever the case, it’s important to ease your dog into the water to make them feel safe, which is exactly what Scriv did.
Known on TikTok as @matthewscriv, Scriv saw Skippy was nervous and offered reassurance that everything was fine as he picked him up. Scriv slowly lowered Skippy into the shallow water. And as soon as Skippy’s paws hit the water and the first wave hit, it was smooth sailing. Skippy was off. His attitude changed, immediately showing Scriv that the move to the beach was worth it.

The zoomies came quickly after Skippy realized the water was a new playground for him. Dashing between the waves and chasing after his owner, he couldn’t get enough.
Scriv told Newsweek via email that they are now at the beach three to four times a week and Skippy loves it.

The precious TikTok video had over 437,400 views, 46,000 likes, and 56 comments as of Thursday.
“Awe!! Skippy out there livin’ his best life,” said a viewer, while another guessed: “And I bet he can’t wait to go back.”
Someone wrote what Skippy was thinking: “‘Dad this water is cold.’ So cute he is going to be a beach dog!”
A TikToker commented: “Just beautiful, he trusts you to show him it’s safe and he got the best day ever. What a lovely little dog, and what a wonderful life he’s having.”
