CLEVELAND, Ohio — Fireball Cinnamon Whisky is taking its brand off the bar and onto golf courses with a quirky new promotion featuring canine “caddies.”
The spirits company is debuting the “Fireball Retrievers,” a team of scent-trained dogs tasked with hunting down stray golf balls during tournaments across the country.
On June 27, Fireball, one of the top-selling shot brands in the U.S., will bring its promotion to White Pines Golf Club in Bensenville, Illinois, transforming a typical round of golf into a playful, rule-breaking event.
The star attraction: the Fireball Retrievers, a team of specially trained dogs that will search the course for cinnamon-scented golf balls when shots go astray.
Beginning June 20, golfers can book a round at White Pines. On that day, participants will get a Fireball cinnamon-scented golf ball to use at the designated hole. If the shot goes sideways, the Fireball Retrievers will hunt it down. Once they find the ball, they’ll sit and bark until the duffer arrives.
Fans and players alike can redeem collected balls for branded Fireball merchandise, limited-edition golf accessories or a free dram of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky.
“Let’s admit it — golf can take itself a little too seriously at times. Imagine, you show up to the course thinking it’s going to be a chill day with friends — then one shanked shot later, you’re red-faced, and digging through the woods for your dignity (and your golf ball),” Danny Suich, global brand director for Fireball, said.
For those who can’t make it to the event, Fireball is also selling limited-edition cinnamon-scented golf balls online starting June 27. The balls, priced at $1 — the same as a Fireball shooter — can be purchased at FireballWhisky.com/Retrievers. While the dogs aren’t included, training tips from Dog Training Elite are available on the site for anyone interested in teaching their own dog some retrieval skills.
