A video of a dog being a “drama queen” after an injury to her paw has melted viewers’ hearts on TikTok.
The clip was posted by @aleyatok, the TikTok account of a pit bull called Aleya, and has received 854,000 views since it was shared on October 18.
A note overlaid on the video says, “When your dog has a tiny cut on her foot and this is how they act.”
The footage shows Aleya in front of a couch with a bandage on her left paw. She’s sitting with the bandaged paw lifted off the floor while staring back at the camera with a forlorn look. An off-camera voice is heard saying, “Baby, it’s OK.”
A caption shared with the post says, “So dramatic, but i love it.”
The pup’s apparent desire to be babied by her owner is not surprising because “dogs are dependent on human care and their behavior seems specifically geared to engage their owners’ care-giving system,” says a May 2013 study in the online journal PLOS One.
The study noted that “this unique relationship between adult dogs and their human owners bears a remarkable resemblance to an infant attachment bond.”
A March 2019 study published in Scientific Reports found that “dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs, and that these relationships vary along multiple components across different partners.”
‘That Face’
TikTok users were delighted by the dog’s dramatic antics in the viral video, with several expressing sympathy for the pup.
TF580.3.0 wrote: “My pitty is a drama queen,” while l33chambers59 said, “Oh bless. it’s [the paw] practically amputated.”
User wollfie80 wrote that the dog must have been saying, “I nearly died, the vet said hopefully one day I’ll walk again.”
