NEAR NOVELTY, Mo. — A northeast Missouri tiny home went up in flames on Friday.
The blaze in Knox County was reported right around noon on Route A, three-and-a-half miles west of Novelty.
Knox County Sheriff Carl Knoche told KTVO at the scene that Staci Melton lived in the residence.
She was not home when the fire broke out.
Knoche said Melton had gone to her neighbor’s house for a short time, and when she was returning home, she saw smoke coming from her tiny house.
Melton told the sheriff that she believes it’s possible one of her dogs may have knocked over an electric space heater, causing the fire.
An unknown number of Melton’s dogs died in the blaze.
Firefighters from Novelty, Plevna and Hurdland battled the blaze.
The home is a total loss.
