RICHLAND COUNTY, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A man was hurt after a fire and explosion on a property in Richland County on Friday morning.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office was called just before 11:00 a.m. on December 13 to 5852 160th Avenue SE, which is southwest of Kindred and west of Walcott.
Law enforcement and fire officials arrived and found a fifth-wheel camper on a farm had started on fire and exploded.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the property owner, Matt Brown, says he noticed flames coming from the trailer and tried to get his dogs out of the camper. He received minor burns on his hands and was able to rescue 5 of the 8 dogs, some of which were newborn puppies.
The camper exploded, causing damage to adjacent buildings. The Sheriff’s Office says the camper was a total loss and there’s an undetermined amount of damage to surrounding buildings.
Kindred, Colfax, Walcott and Christine Fire Departments responded to the scene. Kindred Ambulance, Richland County Sheriff’s Office and the Richland County Emergency Manager were also on scene.
Richland County Emergency Management Director, Brett Lambrecht, is helping the victim with recovery efforts through the American Red Cross. The Red Cross is helping Brown with a temporary place to stay, and immediate assistance with items such as clothing, toiletries and food.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
