ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — The lone dog who survived a fatal Escambia County mobile home fire in early January passed away Wednesday amid his battle to recovery.
WEAR News previously reported about Falcor — a 3-year-old shar pei — and his owner Elton Carroll Jr.
Carroll Jr.’s mobile home on Shamrock Drive caught fire on Jan. 5. Despite efforts to rescue all three of his dogs, only Falcor survived the fire, although he suffered third-degree burns to nearly half his body.
Falcor went to Coastal Sunrise Animal Hospital in Pensacola for extensive treatment that turned quite expensive as the days piled on. The community helped raise over $12,500 on GoFundMe to fund his treatment.
Wednesday morning, Falcor returned to the animal hospital due to a low white blood cell count. Carroll Jr. said he received a transfusion, but passed away a half hour later around noon.
Carroll Jr. — who called Falcor a fighter and his best friend — said he would like to thank the community for their support.
