The golden retriever dog breed has a type of boyfriend named after it for good reason, according to a video on TikTok.
The clip, posted by Nikki Cortina (@adventuresofpilot) shows her and her boyfriend’s golden retriever precariously positioning himself between the couple on two chairs in an adorable bid to be near them. Cortina, 21, told Newsweek about the dog’s other quirky habits, and her and her boyfriend’s lives together with their first pup.
“POV [point of view]: Your dog insists on being right between you and your boyfriend,” Cortina said. “He always splits the difference between us.”

The clip shows the couple’s dog, Pilot, trying to sit on the armrest of a leather chair between the two. Way too big for it, he kneels down while looking sheepishly at the camera.
Cortina said that Pilot does this “very often.”
“My boyfriend, Landon Albrick, and I realized that, if we were not together in the house physically, Pilot would always split the distance between us,” she added. “One day, he climbed up on the arm of the chair, and I whipped out my phone because I have never had a dog do this before.”

The couple got Pilot on Valentine’s Day in 2023, and the bond was instant. In fact, the pup and Cortina even have the same birthday. From the beginning, she had been recording footage of her dog’s quirky behaviors—like his penchant for his grandmother’s pool—but it wasn’t until recently the pet blew up on TikTok.
A viral video posted in July revealed Pilot burping after he had his meal: “Anyone else’s dog burp after they eat anything?” she captioned the video, which received over 1 million likes.
Another video, receiving nearly 20 million views, showed Pilot’s progression from puppy to adult in three photos, the last of which shows him smirking with the caption: “Stunnin’ now.”
“Was not ready for the last pic,” one person commented. “Baby just knows he’s fine.”
In their time not recording or posting content, Cortina said she and her partner take Pilot on walks and even swims, when possible.
“A typical day in our life consists of walks, lots of treats, some training exercises, and if we have time,” she added. “He loves to go swimming. We take him to lakes or creeks around Charlotte, [North Carolina].”
Pilot is the couple’s first dog together—and Cortina said they don’t take that for granted.
“Pilot is a happy-go-lucky boy with a lot of love to give,” she added. “We cherish every moment we can get.”
