A viral TikTok video shows a golden retriever named Tula having the best time in Key West, Florida, with her grandparents, and internet users cannot cope with the way she completely ignores her owner.
In the hilarious clip shared in October by the pup’s owner under the username @morgiepb, Tula can be seen riding the front of a golf cart with her grandparents as her mom sits alone at the back, watching her have fun without her.
“It’s like my dog forgets I exist when grandparents are in town,” reads layover text in the clip. And a caption says: “She REALLY loves grandpa.” Newsweek reached out to @morgiepb for comment via email. We could not verify the details of the case.
It is not unusual for dogs to forget about everyone and everything else when their grandparents are around, but does that mean that they love their grandparents even more than their owners?
An article by Elle Vet Sciences, medically reviewed by Dr. David Tittle, says that a dog’s favorite human doesn’t necessarily have to be the one that takes care of them all day. It can be anyone who knows the way to their heart best, from their walker to their grandpa. But how do you know if you are indeed their number one?
Newsweek previously spoke to Kait Hembree, veterinary behavior nurse and head of training and behavior specialist at GoodPup. She said that, when a dog loves you the most, they will show a few common signs.
These include trying their hardest to be near you at all times; wiggling their tail every time they see you; keeping a soft, nonthreatening eye contact with you; rubbing their face all over you; and following you around, among others.
However, sometimes dogs can have multiple favorites, all for different reasons. But if you don’t think you are one of them, do not worry. You can easily win their love by spending more quality time with them, taking long walks, and giving them lots of extra pets.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 174,200 views and almost 35,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Amnee, commented: “The way [she]’s not even looking back.”
Nonnernancy posted: “UGH, she’s still behind us.”
Amy_inthePNW added: “You’re the equivalent of a third wheel now, ma’am.”
