FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) – A dog will be euthanized after a deadly attack against a 71-year-old woman biking through a Florence community.
The owners of the dog signed a voluntary surrender form agreeing to the animal being euthanized, according to Florence police Capt. Stephen Starling.
Starling said they will no longer have to hold a hearing now, and officials will schedule a date for the euthanization.
Karen Nelson of Florence was riding her bike through Brigadoone Lane Wednesday evening when the dog broke free from its leash and attacked her, knocking her off her bike.
The dog bit Nelson, causing multiple traumatic injuries, and she later died at a hospital.
Her body was scheduled to be autopsied on Friday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina.
