A dog enjoying his time in a winter wonderland thought his owner was treating him, but the truth was that their car had become stuck in the snow.
Rakel Einarsdóttir lives in Iceland with her dog, Boris, a Labrador and border collie mix. The two were driving together in the snow when her car stopped. The snow gobbled up her tires. She hopped out to start digging her way out. She then let Boris out to get a break.
In her dog’s mind, this was the perfect spot for a playdate. She told Newsweek that Boris “absolutely loves the snow.” Despite growing up in Iceland and being used to the snow, her dog still cannot get enough.
Her May 15 Instagram video posted to the account @xxrakel showed Boris having the time of his life in the snow. He kept digging through the inches-deep snow and rolled on his back until his heart was content. But, as Einarsdóttir wrote in the video, “little does he know,” the reason for the snowy fun was that the car was stuck.
Einarsdóttir took breaks from trying to free the car to play with Boris, throwing snowballs in his direction, which he tried to catch with his mouth. She said Boris played for about an hour and a half before she put him back inside to warm up. It became a cycle of in and out of the car as the car was stuck for over three hours.
“When he saw me get the shovel to try dig my car up, he got super excited and started digging a bunch of holes,” she said. He’s always loved to dig, as he grew up around a construction site and would often go to work with her dad.
“He eventually got the memo that we were stuck and so he helped me a bit with digging up the car as well,” she said.

Einarsdóttir wrote in the comment section on Instagram that she would dig for about an hour, drive one meter before getting stuck again. This process repeated itself before another car came and helped free them. Thankfully, Boris didn’t mind.
With over 1.9 million views on Instagram, viewers instantly fell in love with the dog’s ability to turn a headache of a situation a positive one.
“He said: ‘Wooow this is nice, did you pick this spot all by yourself?'” commented one user.
Another person commented: “Bro was literally digging a hole, but couldn’t help dig you out?! He knew you were stuck and was not about to change y’all’s circumstances. He knew exactly what was going on.”
A third commenter wrote: “Happy accident that led to a core memory being made. That’s the good old days in the present moment.”
