Dog refuses to eat dinner unless owner prays with him—”Can’t make this up’

The internet has gone wild for a dog who refuses to eat dinner until he says grace first.

Praying dog Bud, who lives with his owner, Haley Buckland, has become an overnight sensation thanks to videos showing his very devout nature. One particular clip has exploded in popularity as the black Labrador retriever just refused his owner’s orders to eat until she allowed him to pray.

In the clip, shared to Buckland’s TikTok account, @sykotic_girl, on August 13, she offers a meal of chicken and vegetables to the dog and tells him: “Go eat it.”

She even playfully pushes him towards the bowl, but he simply looks back at her, confused — until she says: “You need to pray, right?”

Getting excited, Bud sits down and offers his paw, again refusing to eat the food.

Eventually, Buckland launches into her prayer, beginning with: “God is good, God is great, let us thank him for our food.”

And only when she is finished and says “Amen,” does Bud rush over to his food bowl and start tucking in.

Buckland wrote on the caption: “I literally can’t make this up.”

And TikTok users were left in awe, with the video racking up a whopping 6 million likes and almost 30 million views in just a few days, with thousands commenting on Bud’s reverence.

“Very Godly, very cutesy, very demure,” one user wrote, referring to the “demure” TikTok trend currently taking over the app.

“He doesn’t eat without thanking the Lord first,” another wrote, with another joking Bud must have been “a pastor in his previous life”.

And as one person put it: “He’s a Dog of God.”

Buckland’s TikTok account is filled with videos of her dog praying with her before meals, and he can even tell when she gets the words wrong, refusing to eat unless she says the prayer correctly.

While a dog saying grace is definitely an unusual sight, Labrador retrievers are known for being intelligent and easy to train, making them a common choice as a family pet.

The breed was the most popular in America for years, and now claims second place in the American Kennel Club (AKC)’s list of the most popular dog breeds of 2023.
