Dog ‘recovering well’ after rescue from Portage house fire

PORTAGE, MI – Firefighters on Sunday, Dec. 29, rescued an unresponsive dog while responding to a house fire.

The dog was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic and is stable.

Portage Department of Public Safety responded around 1:30 p.m. to a residence in the 6300 block of Longview Street, near Southland Avenue. Firefighters noted light smoke and found the dog, breathing but unresponsive, doing an search of the residence.

The occupants were not home. The fire originated on a stove top where plastic bowls had melted, firefighters said.

“We are grateful that no one was injured in this incident, and we are especially relieved that the dog is recovering well,” Jeff VanderWiere, public safety deputy director, said in a release.

“Our teams responded quickly and effectively, ensuring both the safety of the property and the life of the animal.”

Firefighters from the townships of Texas, Comstock and Oshtemo assisted.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
