Many dog owners have been subjected to a puppy-eyed guilt trip, but a woman recently bore the full brunt of one while trying to relax in a garden.
TikTok user @ameliemb2000, based in the U.K., was enjoying one of the hottest days of the year by basking in the sunshine. But as she illustrated in a video posted on the platform, her pet spaniel had other ideas.
On June 24, the owner shared a video of herself sitting in a wicker chair in a garden. The camera pans to her dog, who has dropped a toy by her feet and is giving her a begging look, with the pup’s eyes darting from the toy to her owner and back.
The video has since received more than 250,000 views and 20,000 likes. Newsweek has contacted @ameliemb2000 for comment via TikTok.
The owner wrote in the video’s caption, “Having a spaniel isn’t for the weak,” and viewers commented in agreement.
“Why is it always on the hottest day of the year they decide they want to play all day?” one user asked. The owner replied, “To torture us!”
“Knew that’d be a spaniel mine’s the same,” another said, while one commenter asked, “Why is he so polite tho?”
One user said the TikToker “can’t say no to that face,” and the owner replied to confirm that she did end up “throwing her toy continuously for like an hour.”
The owner said in the comments section that her dog is a sprocker spaniel, a relatively new breed that combines the English springer spaniel and American cocker spaniel, the Spruce Pets website said.
The American Kennel Club describes springers as exuberant, energetic and friendly dogs capable of hours of play.
Cockers, meanwhile, are likewise described as eager playmates, durable and athletic, meaning sprocker owners can be sure to expect lots of requests for fetch and other forms of play.
Spaniels are also intelligent and easily trained. One dog trainer recently went viral for showing off her pet’s unique trick: building a tower of toy blocks.
On TikTok, Emily Anderson showed off her spaniel, Leo, placing a piece on a tower made up of more than a dozen blocks. She told Newsweek he had plenty of tricks, including hopscotch and painting.
Her special pup even holds a Guinness World Record for putting 23 coins in a piggy bank in one minute—breaking the previous record of 18 coins.
