A video of a dog appearing “so hurt” after being left at home while her owner was at work has gone viral on TikTok.
The clip was shared by 33-year-old Stephanie Maddeaux (@s_maddeaux), who works in consulting as a sales analyst in Toronto, Canada. A caption shared with the post reads: “When you decide to check the dog camera while you are at work and it immediately ruins your day.”
The footage, captured in her Toronto home, shows her dog, Bella—a nine-year-old boxer/American bulldog—staring at the floor while sitting in a dog bed in the kitchen.

Maddeaux told Newsweek: “I’d say she was in the spot for maybe 20 minutes. She is left home alone maybe once or twice a week when I go into the office. It is usually for four to five hours,” she noted.
The poster’s worry over her dog’s reaction to being left alone comes as no surprise as pet owners have shown more concern for their animal companions since the pandemic.
In a March 2021 survey conducted by market research firm OnePoll, in partnership with Banfield Pet Hospital, based in Portland, Oregon, one in three people said they got a new pet during the pandemic. As COVID-19 restrictions were lifted and people began heading back to the office, many had to leave pets at home when they went to work.

The survey found that just under a third (32 percent) of owners contacted their veterinarian for advice about making the transition back to work easier on their pets.
Around one in two people from Generation Z and one in three millennials said they would consider looking for another job in the post-pandemic era if their workplace was not pet-friendly, according to the survey.
