A dog has left the internet feeling emotional after his pawrent shared what she discovered on her pet cam when she left him alone.
The dog’s owner, @lexx_adventures, shared footage of her black Labrador looking sad and waiting at the door for his mom to return home.
“POV: I can never leave him ever again because he did this when I did,” the dog-lover wrote as text overlaying the video, which has garnered 621,900 views and 101,000 likes on TikTok.
Pet surveillance cameras, like the one used by @lexx_adventures, have become increasingly popular among pet owners who want to monitor their furry friends while they’re away.
These cameras can offer peace of mind by allowing owners to check on their pets in real-time and even interact with them through features like two-way audio. Some cameras also include treat dispensers, giving owners a way to comfort their pets remotely.
However, seeing a pet’s sadness on camera can be heartbreaking. Dogs are social animals and are known to miss their owners deeply. According to Rover.com, this can happen with all dogs, not just those with separation anxiety.
Rover, which operates an online marketplace for people to buy and sell pet care services, says helping a dog cope with separation involves creating a positive association with your departures, such as offering a special treat or toy only given when you leave.
Gradually increasing the time spent away and maintaining a consistent routine can also help reduce anxiety.
TikTok users were quick to share their reactions to the video, with many relating to the heartache of leaving their pets behind.
“For everyone saying get another dog, I’ve got 8 dogs and they’ll still act like they’ve been abandoned,” said one viewer.
“This is my dog. She doesn’t destroy anything. But she won’t eat or drink or play. She just lays there staring at the door,” another pawrent chimed in.
“I got a camera to make me feel better and all it has done is make me feel WORSE,” lamented one user.
“Yea if I seen my baby Loki do this I would cry and run back home,” said a different viewer.
