Preparing for a trip is stressful enough between booking flights and accommodations to remembering what to pack and making plans for your pets. There’s bound to be a hiccup with all the moving parts, but that’s when you learn to adapt.
That’s what happened to the owners of Lucy the Scottish Terrier. They arrived at the airport with their dog in tow ready for a travel day. However, as soon as they arrived, they realized an important item was missing: the dog leash.
While there are different restrictions per airline when traveling with a pet, it almost always requires a pet to be in a carrier or walked on a leash. Because of that, Lucy’s owners needed to improvise to get her through security. They searched their belongings for anything to work as a leash for Lucy before settling on doggy waste bags.
They made it through security and sat at the gate waiting for their flight in the June 30 Instagram video posted to the account @lucy_thescottie. The owner showed off the makeshift leash they made by tying one doggy bag to another. It started with one bag tied to the dog’s collar. Then one by one, bags were attached until it was long enough for the owner to hold.
The text on the video reads: “We are at the airport and realized we forgot the leash…This is our only option.”
It wasn’t the most sturdy of leashes to use, but it got the job done until the owners could get to a store and purchase a new leash. However, Lucy was not too happy about it.
In the clip, Lucy sat with her back toward the owner. She wouldn’t make eye contact because she was completely embarrassed by what her owners put her through. Instead of everyone admiring her cuteness, she knew people were going to be judging this so-called leash her parents made her wear.
Newsweek reached out to @lucy_thescottie via Instagram for additional information.
While Lucy was not too fond of her new leash, people couldn’t get over the owner’s creativity. The clip brought in over 3.4 million views and 113,000 likes as of Monday.
“She’s like are you kidding me, Mom? You’re embarrassing me,” wrote a viewer.
“Great solution! You can tell people it’s Balenciaga leash,” joked another.
A third user commented: “Lol those poop bags are stronger than they seem.”
