A dog’s unbearable morning commute from one sleep spot to the next has left social media viewers laughing.
Non-early-risers know the struggle of crawling out of bed, especially in the winter months—if the sun isn’t up, why should we be? The only thing that makes it doable for some is a fresh cup of coffee.
One pit bull has made those who hate mornings feel seen. He also wants nothing more than to crawl back into bed.
A Monday TikTok video by user @gilbert.the.pit shows the “worst part” of the dog’s day. Instead of sleeping unbothered until noon, as he wants to, Gilbert gets woken up, shuffles out of bed and starts his morning commute.
Frustrated and annoyed, Gilbert must move from his overnight bed in the bedroom to a spot in his dad’s office for his midmorning nap. He hangs his head down as he heads to his new spot. Trying not to stop himself from becoming too awake, he keeps a blanket wrapped over him.
The caption reads: “He is not pleased during this 3 minute period of being awake in the morning.”
Gilbert’s owner told Newsweek he’s always been like this. He understands the importance of sleep. Being a larger breed, he needs all the extra hours he can get.
Adult dogs sleep on average between eight and 14 hours. However, large dog breeds like Gilbert might get up to 18 hours of sleep, according to the website PetPlan. Puppies also sleep upward of 18 hours, which helps with their development.
Consider the number of hours Gilbert needs for a dog his size, along with the fact that canines thrive on routines, and you’ll understand why Gilbert will be sticking to this morning schedule for the foreseeable future.
The clip has over 2.1 million views and 322,000 likes on TikTok, and people couldn’t get over this dog’s “ruff commute.”
“My two-hour daily commute is nothing compared to Gilbert’s. I’m so blessed,” said one viewer.
Another jokingly asked: “Are his travel hours reimbursed?”
Even the official TikTok account for Google commented: “The morning route is getting out of hand.”
Others shared what their dogs do in the morning.
“Mine stays in bed, but I pull my laptop out and work next to him. The huffs and puffs I receive leave me speechless. Sir someone has to pay rent.”
