Ruhn has been a tripod since he was a puppy, and it’s never slowed him down. From the day his family adopted him, he’s been a three-legged powerhouse, running circles around his other furry siblings.
“You would never know he was missing a leg,” Brittany Ketcham, Ruhn’s mom, told The Dodo. “He doesn’t miss a beat! He’s faster than some of the dogs, and he loves to dig … A lot of people always ask why he’s limping when we’re out, then I have to explain he’s missing a leg, and they say, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t even notice!’”

Since he was adopted a year ago, Ruhn has helped foster 11 dogs. He loves being a foster brother and showing other pups the ropes — but nothing could have prepared him for the moment he met Tricycle.

“Mae’s Mutts Rescue is who we’ve been fostering/volunteering for, and Bobbi (founder) posted that they had a litter coming in from a rural shelter and needed fosters,” Ketcham said. “I have taken a step back from fostering because we’re at 12 permanent dogs right now, but when I saw one was a tripod, I told her I’d take him.”
Ruhn had never met another tripod dog before, and the moment he met Tricycle, he immediately noticed that he was just like him.
“Ruhn loves other dogs, and I think he was so excited to see a dog walking/hopping like him,” Ketcham said. “He immediately started playing with him and trying to get him to run around.”
Since then, Ruhn has been doing an amazing job showing Tricycle how to navigate the world with only three legs. Tricycle was struggling a little when he first arrived in his foster home, but with the help of Ruhn, he’s beginning to thrive.

“Tricycle was having trouble with his walk/hop when I first got him home, and it seems Ruhn has shown him the way,” Ketcham said. “It was cute because he would hop to me then look back and circle back to Tricycle if he wasn’t moving fast enough. They love playing and running together. Ruhn has shown him how to dig with one front leg.”

Ruhn loves all dogs and loves being a foster brother in general — but there will always be something so special about meeting another pup who is just like him.
