The abandonment of a dog in an ordinary U.S. suburb has broken the hearts of viewers online.
The dog was captured wandering around the outside of a property by the home’s occupier, and video was shared to TikTok by a woman under @devil_nyxx. The canine had been abandoned outside the stranger’s home with only a stuffed toy to cling to.
The video, which had been uploaded on November 8, shows the solitary dog sitting outside the woman’s front door, clutching his stuffed animal, without any tag or collar to identify him. The video has garnered over 567,000 views to date, sparking widespread sympathy for the lonely canine and outrage over his abandonment.
The woman shared in a follow up video on November 9 that the dog has since been taken to an animal rescue shelter, after animal control could not locate a previous owner for him.
In the video, the woman can be seen gently calling the dog over and petting him, offering words of comfort as the dog hesitantly approached her.
An overlaid text on the video read: “Found this sweet boy abandoned outside my house with his stuffy. No tag, no collar, no nothing. I took ghost inside and kneeled to call him. He was shy at first but slowly walked up and laid on me, it shows he once had a home, this is cruel. My heart aches for him.”
Captioned simply with “This hurts my heart,” the video became a call for empathy and care for animals left in such vulnerable situations. The clip resonated with TikTok users, who praised the dog’s rescuer for her kindness and shared their own feelings about the dog’s plight. The woman told viewers in her follow up post that she could not rehome the dog, due to him not being compatible with her own pet.
“His stuffy? How could someone,” one viewer said.
Another added: “I broke down in tears, look at his stuffy. Please, please say you took that sweet baby home.”
“The stuffy in his mouth,” a third viewer said. “He is was not wanting to leave that spot he kept going back, which tells me he was dumped there and didn’t want to leave because he is waiting for his humans to come back.”
“Ok, I’m crying again and again,” another said.
Another added: “The fact he was carrying the only thing he had left in the world.”
